Brawl at Del Amo Fashion Center draws massive police presence
Del Amo Fashion Center, Youth brawls draw hundreds to 2 California malls, including in Torrance
A significant altercation prompted a substantial police presence at Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance on Sunday, as officers from multiple law enforcement agencies swiftly responded to the scene.
Around 4 p.m., the Torrance Police Department received a call regarding a “large group of juveniles engaged in altercations” at the shopping center, situated in the 3500 block of Carson Street.
Officers hailing from the Torrance, Gardena, El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, and Los Angeles Police Departments converged on the location, alongside deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
A spokesperson for the Torrance police stated, “Given the considerable size of the juvenile crowd, Torrance is receiving assistance from neighboring police departments.”
Investigators are actively examining reports of potential gunfire that occurred during the brawl. A witness has informed the authorities that at least one gunshot was discharged.
As of now, no injuries have been reported as officers work to disperse the juveniles from the premises.
Although law enforcement did not issue a directive for businesses to close, some establishments chose to secure their doors while the situation was ongoing.
Beneath the presence of SkyCal, officers could be observed forming skirmish lines around the shopping center.
