The 36-year-old lead singer of Florence and The Machine took to Instagram to share an intimate account of her recent journey. Having faced health challenges that compelled her to call off multiple concerts, Welch disclosed that she underwent a life-saving surgical procedure that marked a pivotal moment in her physical well-being.

In her heartfelt message, she expressed regret for the canceled shows while recognizing her own inability to delve into the specifics of the medical crisis. She acknowledged the letdown and worry her cancellations caused and assured her fans that she would return to conclude the tour.

Welch apologised, “I extend my sincere apologies for the need to cancel the recent performances.” I recently had an emergency surgical procedure because of reasons I can’t yet discuss in detail, but it was essential to keeping my health. My feet are currently healing.

Rest assured, she continued, “I’ll be back to finish the Dance Fever tour in Lisbon and Malaga (maybe with a little less leaping, but you can leap on my behalf).”

Florence Welch Reflects on the “Prophetic” Themes in Her Songs

Continuing her statement, the artist behind hits like “You’ve Got The Love” revealed a complex blend of emotions, including a sense of responsibility for her ordeal, as she commented on the seemingly “prophetic” nature of her song lyrics.

To be completely honest, I wish the songs weren’t so eerily accurate in their prognostications. However, mythology helps us find meaning while creativity serves as a management tool, according to Welch.

“And the shadowy fairytale of Dance Fever, with its peculiar prophecies, will supply me with the much-needed strength and catharsis I need right now,” she added.

Tour Cancellation Due to “Medical Advice”

Welch’s life-saving surgery occurred a mere six days after she disclosed that Florence and The Machine would be forced to withdraw from the Zurich Open Air Festival and Rock en Seine, as reported by the Daily Mail.

In a heartfelt message shared on her Instagram stories, she opened up about the health troubles that prompted her to cancel several highly anticipated performances, emphasizing that the choice was made based on “medical advice.”

“Unfortunately, based on medical advice, Florence + The Machine will regrettably be unable to perform at the Zurich Open Air Festival on August 25 and Rock En Seine on August 26. We value your understanding and patience,” the post read.

Foot Injury Hampers Florence Welch’s Tour

Earlier, Welch had shed light on the health challenges that led to the cancellation of a highly awaited performance at London’s O2 Arena in November of the previous year. The singer’s health concern once again took center stage as she had to cancel a show to address her foot issue.

“I’m deeply saddened to share that after an X-ray, it appears that I danced last night on a broken foot,” Welch revealed at the time.

“It isn’t in my nature to postpone a show, particularly not during a UK tour, but I’m in pain, and as dancers are aware, dancing with an injury is ill-advised. I’ve been advised not to perform to prevent further harm,” she explained.

The singer said, “Please hold onto your tickets.” We are putting in a lot of effort to reschedule these dates for next year, and we’ll keep you informed as soon as we can.

Welch went on to express her heartbreak, noting that the tour had been her “favorite show.” She concluded the post by reassuring her fans.

“I hold immense love for all of you, and I’m so sorry for any disappointment. My heart aches. I’m eager to stand on my feet again and be in your embrace,” the singer concluded.

Subsequently, Florence and the Machine fulfilled their live dates in early 2023, including performances at venues like The O2 in London.
