4 found dead in NYC apartment (Upper West Side Apartment), The four family members 2 Children and 2 Adults
The lifeless bodies of four family members, including an infant and a toddler, were discovered on Monday within a secured apartment on the Upper West Side. Law enforcement was actively investigating the incident as a possible assault involving a minimum of three different knives.
As per an internal police document, the two grown-ups, a 41-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman, sustained fatal wounds to their throats. Meanwhile, the two youngsters, aged 3 and 1, were also tragically killed, although official information regarding their deaths was not yet disclosed.
A senior police official noted that the apartment’s entrance was locked from within, and currently, no additional suspects were being pursued.
Although the official statement did not confirm whether the situation was being treated as a murder-suicide, the internal report hinted that one of the three knives discovered close to the victims was positioned beside the man on the bed.
The victims, according to the report, were all members of a single family. Although neighbors and locals indicated that the deceased man was the building’s superintendent and the deceased woman and children were his spouse and offspring, the police had yet to verify these relationships.
The tragic incident transpired in a compact cooperative building on West 86th Street, a mere stone’s throw away from Riverside Park. The discovery was made when an anxious relative visited the fourth-floor apartment to check on the family’s well-being.
This relative, identified by residents as a superintendent in a nearby building, resorted to drilling a hole in the door to bypass the lock after receiving no response to his knocks. Upon peering inside, he promptly dialed emergency services.
Firefighters were dispatched and had to forcefully enter the premises, as stated by the police.
Officers arrived around 2:55 p.m. as documented. The woman’s body was located in the apartment’s corridor, while the man was found in a bedroom.
Previous tenants and neighbors recalled that the deceased man had pursued the same career path as his father, becoming the building’s superintendent. They recollected him as a composed handyman who could often be observed tending to the plants outside the building in the mornings or pushing his young son around the block in a stroller.
His wife, however, was more reclusive, often staying indoors, according to their accounts.
Philip Caggiano, a longtime resident of the area, mentioned knowing the superintendent since childhood. He had seen him just a few days prior with his two young boys and his wife, reflecting on how the man had grown into his role as a husband and father. Caggiano said, “I just thought, wow, isn’t it wonderful to live on this street with such a happy family.
Carlos Cabrera, a neighboring doorman, described how the superintendent would frequently take his toddler to the park on a scooter. He was genuinely kind and had a lovely family, according to Cabrera. “There was a problem? I never would have guessed that,”
On Monday afternoon, at least two dozen detectives and uniformed police officers congregated outside the building, encircled by residents peeking out from beneath their awnings. Adjacent to the scene, an elderly couple sat on a stoop, holding onto each other’s hands.
