“Jimmy Buffett’s Passing Confirmed: Legendary ‘Margaritaville’ Singer Succumbs to Rare Cancer at 76”
An official obituary on his website has confirmed that Jimmy Buffett, renowned for his hit song “Margaritaville,” passed away at his Sag Harbor, New York home on Friday. The cause of death was attributed to his four-year battle with Merkel cell carcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of skin cancer. Despite his health struggles, Buffett continued to perform publicly and made his final appearance in Rhode Island in early July.
Following the announcement of his passing, tributes poured in from figures ranging from President Joe Biden to Paul McCartney of the Beatles. Jimmy Buffett leaves behind his wife of 46 years, Jane, along with his children, Savannah Jane, Sarah Delaney, and Cameron Marley, as well as his grandson, Marley Ray. He also had a beloved group of dogs: Lola, Kingston, Pepper, Rosie, Ajax, and Kody.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be directed to charitable organizations, including Jimmy Buffett’s Foundation Singing for Change, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, or the MD Anderson Cancer Center.
